What is protected Vegetation in Brisbane?
Protected vegetation is trees that may be protected by council until local law. A tree on your property may be protected if it is a significant native tree, near a waterway, located in a rural area or has heritage values.
Protected vegetation is identified by Council under the Natural Assets Local Law 2003 (NALL). This law protects Brisbane’s natural vegetation and delivers a balance between protecting the city’s environment and people, property and lifestyle. You may require a permit to manage vegetation that is protected under this law.

What is the difference between an Arborist and a Tree Lopper?
An arborist is a professional in the practice of arboriculture. An Arborist is qualified in tree removal and maintenance and focus on the health and safety of their tree. A tree lopper is generally concerned with just cutting the tree down without formal qualifications.
